The start

I bought this scooter mid-December of 2011. It was a 2009 with about 5,400 miles on it. I'm the third owner, the first two being guys that used it just for commuting and gas sipping. Same thing I intended to do with it, until I found totalruckus.com and started to get some ideas about modifying it. A little faster, a little cooler looking...why not?

A few pictures attached show it was originally lime green with a black frame. The green matched the Angry Birds piggy pretty well, so I rode with that dude on the front for a while. Eventually, I wanted to drop the seat frame a bit and get out of the wind. That happened fairly quickly with the help of a hacksaw, hammer, and a drill. Seat tubes got cut down about 4", round parts were flattened, and 4 holes were drilled (somewhat haphazardly). It was a little sloppy, but the end result was a lower seat and a farewell to any kind of cargo carrying capacity I had underneath my posterior. Oh well, the price of aerodynamics and comfort.

Got some more ideas in my head and eventually added some other things, but that's for another post..

Introduction

Inspired by a friend's newly created blog, and after seeing countless Honda Ruckus blogs chronicling other owners' adventures, I have decided to start my own mini saga of my 2009 Honda Ruckus, Black Betty.

Pictures and more posts to follow pending my schedule and my motivation level.

Initial thanks to my buddy Tyler for getting me interested in ever wanting a scooter, let alone a Ruckus. also thanks to the helpful and colorful crowd over at totalRuckus.com for the handy diy ideas and supportive community.

This was an investment made to save on gas and a stepping stone between no motorcycle and a possible cruiser next summer. The amount of fun I'm having with this two wheeled faux hog makes me wonder if I will ever actually invest in a real motorbike. Time will tell...
